Die Lindens haben mein Blog gelesen… :)

Oder auch nicht. Jedenfalls hörtsich das was beim letzten “Townhall Meeting” mit Cory Linden und auch im Artikel von Zero Linden verkündet wurde doch sehr nach Schritten in die richtige Richtung an.

“We’ve just completed and passed the first phase of the “sim-caps” project. As Cory alluded to in his Town Hall, this project enables the simulator and viewer to communicate using a collection of standard technologies: TCP, HTTP, SSL/TLS and XML. These offer a better match of performance characteristics for much of the viewer communications, and benefit from the many years of development these technologies have had.” (Zero Linden, emphasis by myself)

“In general, and you will hear this several times today, our engineering efforts are focused on moving away from proprietary solutions to existing web and net protocols that do the same thing. Within the next month, for example, we will be testing a new pipeline for texture downloads to the SL Viewer that just uses HTTP rather than the current messaging system. As you can probably guess, as l33t as the message system is, a fair amount of engineering has gone into making sure HTTP works over the net, so it is a little silly that we don’t leverage that. “Why didn’t we use it from the start?” you ask. Well, mostly because we made an error in estimating how many textures would be in the system.” (Cory Linden, emphasis by myself)

Wer nochmal lesen will, was ich über die Sache denke, findet hier meine Postings auf deutsch und englisch.
