Warum sollte Microsoft für “das Ende der geheimen Documentenformate” gepriesen werden, nachdem genau diese Firma dafür bekannt wurde, vorhandene Standarts zu unterlaufen (“embrace and extend” - frei übersetzt: “umarmen und erweitern”), und die MS-Office Dateiformate von Version zu Version zur maximalen Inkompatibilität verändert hat?
Der “Meilenstein” den Microsoft hier für sich besetzen will, liegt schon weit zurück. Ob es die Entwicklung von OpenOffice bzw. Staroffice, die Erfindung von XML oder SGML, oder gar die Definition des ASCII oder Unicodes ist, darüber kann man streiten. Eines ist jedoch sicher:

The “milestone” Microsoft wants to claim here is a long way back along the path. One might argue if it is the developement of OpenOffice/StarOffice, the invention of XML or SGML, or even the definition of ASCII or Unicode. But one thing is certain:
